PLOT SYNOPSIS

Set in 16th-century Mexico, this historical adventure follows nobleman Pedro De Vargas (TYRONE POWER) as he flees from Spain after offending an Inquisition officer. In his journey across Mexico, Pedro falls in love with a beautiful woman (JEAN PETERS) and repeatedly avoids the clutches of the Inquisition.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 3.0/5

This comes with an 8-page booklet. For a Twilight Time release, this comes with some decent features.

Audio Commentary with Film Historians Rudy Behlmer, Jon Burlingame, and Nick Redman which, as you would expect, given a very academic viewpoint.

Tyrone Power: The Last Idol (45:01; SD) is an older featurette made for Biography and looks at the iconic actor’s career.

Tyrone Power and His Leading Ladies (12:25; SD) profiles the various lovely actresses who played the actor’s romantic interests.

Original Theatrical Trailer (2:46; SD)

VIDEO – 4.0/5, AUDIO – 3.75/5

Captain from Castile debuts on Blu-ray through Twilight Time. The film is presented in its original 1.33 full frame aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer and for the most part looks good. Detail is pretty sharp throughout and outside of the minor and occasional dust marks or specs, is mostly clean.

The included DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0, and 1.0 track for that matter, sounds nice providing for clean and clear dialogue levels while the score gives some minor depth, just nothing extraordinary.

OVERALL – 3.5/5

Overall, Captain from Castile is a fun 1940s-era adventure-drama featuring some fine performances from Tyrone Power and Jean Peters as well as Cesar Romero. The Blu-ray released by Twilight Time has good video/audio transfers and some okay special features.
